Organizing Your Office Desk

There is no place like home, but there surely is one place we spend more time at rather than at home - the workplace. Nearly, everyone is worried about the tidiness and organization of their homes but when it comes to offices, their minds are very different. Most office tables are found to be very messy and unorganized. Stationary, papers, ink refill needs, inkjet cartridges, sticky notes and a lot of other things scattered above the surface of office tables. Not only does it look unsuitable, it also creates difficulty to find something as soon as you need it. Some people do take out the time to clean and arrange their tables every once in a while. Still, there are people who overlook the significance of an organized table. With the desk not properly organized, it is simple to get it messy within minutes after putting everything in place. When you need something, you may need to shuffle everything up and down again because you haven’t set a place for it.

Therefore, you have to know how to arrange your table in a way that everything is easy to get to and arranged. Not only does that reduce the time required of a job, but also makes a good feeling of your individuality. So, here are a few tips that will make the office life much easier for you:

• Firstly start with removing everything off your table. You’d be surprised to see how much room it really has.

• Get rid of all needles items like useless printouts, rough papers, outdated notes, extra pencils, useless pens, etc. Throw anything that you are not likely to use. No matter how pretty it seems, throw it away without any second thoughts.

• Set your PC or workstation back. Put your telephone on the side of the hand that you mostly use. Copy the information in a spiral phone book and throw out all the extra contact cards. You can also use this spiral book to note down vital notes before making the call. This reduces the time you require on call.

• Sort items in general categories like stationary, papers, pocket stuff and keep them in different drawers. If your table does not have any drawers, it is better to use separate containers or boxes for various stuff.

• Your things should be reachable according to use. Most frequently used items like pens or pencils can be placed in a box over the table. The stationary less needed should be in one drawer and papers in some other.

• Electronic stuff such as printers, scanners and modems should not lay over the surface and keep them down the table or anywhere else when not required. It is nice to have a book shelf to hold such equipment and other big stuff regardless of the regularity of usage.

• Lastly, take a little time out of your everyday timetable or five minutes before you leave and rearrange you desk. It won’t take much of time and effort if done every day.
